QUICK THINKING LEADS NEW HAVEN POLICE TO AN ARREST AND THE SEIZURE OF NARCOTICS AND A HANDGUN IN THE CITY’S FAIR HAVEN NEIGHBORHOOD
(4/23/2009) NEW HAVEN- After a brief foot pursuit in the Fair Haven neighborhood of the City Wednesday, New Haven Police arrested 21-year-old Hector Moreno on charges of Possession of narcotics, Possession of narcotics within 1500 feet of a school, Possession of narcotics with intent to sell, Possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a school, Criminal possession of a firearm, Carrying a pistol without a permit, Altering identification numbers on a firearm and Interfering with police.
The incident began when Officer D. Rivera observed suspicious behavior by Moreno and other male individuals outside of a store at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Matlby Street. Officer Rivera attempted to stop and interview Moreno and the other individuals at the scene. When Moreno realized police presence around him, he reached for an item in his waistband and proceeded to flee by foot. Moreno was seen jumping over a fence and running through the yards of homes on Lloyd Street until he was detained by Officer C. Roman. Officers C. Colon and D. Quintero contributed to this arrest.
Officers seized a handgun, two live rounds of ammunition and 20 small bags of narcotics from Moreno.
